When Twyana Davis abandoned her baby 10 years ago, her story made headlines.
At first, Davis claimed she was a victim of rape. Then a big twist in the story led to Davis herself being charged with rape.
The night before she was scheduled to enter a plea in the case, Davis spoke exclusively to 10TV.
Twyana Davis is planning to plead guilty to one count of rape. She's charged with raping her cousin, who was 12 years old at the time.
The two had a relationship -- a relationship which fostered a child. Davis now tries to describe what living a lie has been like for the last 10 years, and why she has decided to finally admit her guilt.
"I've been holding this for so long. And once you're presented an opportunity, you know, and just tired of living in a way that was not truthful." Davis said she has changed. Who she was back in 1995 is not the woman she is today, she claimed she admits that the relationship she had with her cousin was wrong.
"Who I was then and who I am now are two different people," Davis insisted. "I feel as if everybody or I feel as if everything happens for a reason. "Over the past several years, Davis has spoken about the lie she was living. But after finding herself and working on a relationship with God, she says she felt the only way to "get right" was to come forward.
"I have a close relationship with God. And no matter what happens, I trust God. I trust God."
Davis says she reads, writes and recites the Bible each day. It has become her confidence during one of the most difficult times in her life.
Davis's guilty plea will result in a sentence from a minimum of 5 years up to a maximum of 25 years in prison. She could get parole after three and a half years. While Davis serves her time, her daughter will stay with relatives.
